Knowing who the parties and counsel are also allows a conflicts check to be run before a date is held, which saves everyone from booking a day that has to be given back.

Do I need my attorney to make first contact?
No. Parties, attorneys, trustees and legal assistants all reach out to ask about availability. If you are represented, your attorney will normally be involved in confirming the date and the terms of the engagement, but nothing prevents you from asking questions first.
Is my first message confidential?
Contacting Reconcile Mediation does not create an attorney-client relationship, because a mediator is a neutral and does not represent either side. Please keep your first message to a general description of the dispute rather than sensitive detail, and save the specifics for the session itself.
How far in advance should we book a mediation?
Dates can often be arranged within a few weeks, though it depends on the calendars of everyone who has to attend. If you are working toward a court date or another deadline, mention it in your message so scheduling can be worked backward from it.
